Another human observational drawing practice endeavoring to improve my art skills in human anatomy, proportions and character expression.
Darianka Sánchez is currently one of my favorite, most admired models today. Photography, fashion and modeling being one of the themes and genres of art which I'm very ardent about, I enjoy seeing a lot of Darianka's shoots, whether on Instagram, TikTok, magazines, campaigns, or modeling agency website books. After discovering her and Corrado Martini in 2021, I've been wanting to create an observational drawing of Darianka since.
It can probably be observed from the Procreate timelapse video that I struggled a lot getting the scale of her head right to fit within that 1/8th measurement of the human body diagram. I had to resize her head down, then up. The alignment and angle of Darianka's eyes and brows also looked somewhat off, so I adjusted them 'straighter.' Moreover, I realized I initially drew the shape and size of her face too small in proportion to her hair, so I had to scale the face bigger which was a hesitant decision to make. Drawing her entire figure from scratch without tracing, these were definitely the most challenging parts.
When painting her jeans I expected having to use a variety of Procreate brushes to accurately depict their texture. But I remember only ending up painting with the spraypaint medium nozzle brush on the outlines, because the way I already drew and colored in her jeans was enough.
